Gillespie Avenue shooting leaves four injured

ALBANY — Albany Police Department officers responded to a call at 8:26 p.m. Tuesday night after receiving reports of a drive-by shooting on the 1200 block of Gillespie Avenue.

According to Albany police, four victims were injured in the shooting. Travis Griffin, 23, suffered a gunshot wound to the hip. Tavoya Williams, 21, suffered a gunshot wound to the right arm and the right thigh. Ezell Harris, 22, received a gunshot wound to the upper left arm area, and Natavius Smith, 18, was shot in the right arm. Jasmine Winchester, 24, also was listed in police reports as a victim for damage suffered to her vehicle during the shooting.

Officers made contact with two of the victims, Williams and Smith. EMS arrived on the scene and transported all victims to the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Emergency Center for treatment.

Witnesses told officers that the event occurred during a party for a person who had been released from prison. A gray Honda sedan drove past the residence multiple times. According to witnesses, on the last drive-by, the driver shot into the crowd of people at the party.

Dispatch advised later that another victim, Harris, was at the E-Z Corner Store on the 500 block of South Slappey Boulevard with a gunshot would. EMS treated and transported the victim to the hospital for further treatment. Officers then learned that Griffin had arrived at the hospital for treatment.
