Golf tournament to benefit Ashburn man with cerebral palsy
Money raised at tourney will go toward a used van, wheelchair lift
From Staff Reports
ASHBURN — A golf tournament to benefit Cody McWhorter, an Ashburn resident living with cerebral palsy, is set for Saturday.
Money from the fundraiser will be used to help McWhorter pay for a replacement van and chair lift. His family has specified that it is not looking to get a new van, but “a good used cargo-type van currently made by two U.S. car makers.” Doors and ceilings in the types of vans sought are already wide enough to accommodate the chair lift and equipment.
“A lady named Donna Waters and her husband, Ronnie, got this (fundraiser) started for me and my son with (cerebral palsy),” Sidney McWhorter, Cody’s father, said. “They started this, and I’m trying to help them with it. Ronnie works with Wanee Lake (golf course) and talked with the owner and the owner said, ‘Go ahead and have it, and I’ll donate the golf course for it.’ It amazed me how much they’d done before I even knew about it. I was surprised.”
The benefit is a “four-man scramble” with a $200 team entry fee. Other activities, like a bake sale and games, are planned for the event as well. Tee time is 8 a.m. at Wanee Lake. Interested parties can call Wanee Lake at (229) 567-2727 for more information.
