Group to host 43rd Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast
Albany-Dougherty National Prayer Committee encourages community prayer
From Staff Report
ALBANY — Holding firm to the belief that prayer is the key to accepting responsibility in God to bring about positive change, the Albany-Dougherty National Prayer Committee (ALDON) will host the 43rd annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 7.
The breakfast, which will begin at 6:30 a.m., will be held at the Merry Acres Events Center at 1500 Dawson Road in Albany.
Sherwood Baptist Church Associate Pastor Ken Bevel will join Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard as the featured speakers at the breakfast. Each will speak on specific aspects of recovery under the theme “Taking Responsibility Through Prayer,” which is based on the Biblical writings of Psalm 37:3-5.
Bevel, who had roles in the Sherwood films “Fireproof” and “Courageous,” retired from the United States Marine Corps after 20 years of service. He serves Sherwood as the church’s pastor of membership and local missions and has been instrumental in recovery efforts following storms that have left many in the community in substandard living conditions.
Hubbard, who is serving her second term as Albany’s first female mayor, has worked with Albany and Dougherty County officials to facilitate recovery in the community following four presidentially declared disasters that have impacted the region in the last two years, including back-to-back devastating storms in January of 2017 and Hurricane Michael on Oct. 10 of this year.
Hubbard is expected to outline ongoing recovery plans for the new year.
Tickets, which are $17 each — $136 for a reserved table for eight — are available at ALDON, 2406 Ashford Drive in Albany or at the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce offices at 225 W. Broad Ave. Additional information is available by contacting ALDON Chairman Larry Price at (229) 317-3900 or via email at [email protected].
Only 240 tickets will be available for purchase and reservations are required. Deadline for ticket purchase is Feb. 1 or when all tickets are sold out.
