Construction forces temporary change to Phoebe ER access

ALBANY – As construction of the Phoebe Trauma & Critical Care Tower enters its final stages, crews must complete work on 4th Avenue that will temporarily alter how patients and visitors access Phoebe’s emergency center in Albany. Beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, 4th Avenue will be closed on the west side of Jefferson Street heading to the ER.

Anyone going to the ER will need to enter Phoebe’s campus from the 4th Avenue Alley between 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue. The alley will be open to two-way traffic from Jefferson and Monroe streets. Traffic will be directed through the future ER parking lot to the current ER entrance, where patients can be dropped off. Drivers will then need to proceed to the adjacent parking garage where they can park on the first floor.

“We will place plenty of signage in the area and deploy security personnel to help direct traffic and minimize any disruptions,” Phoebe VP of Property, Construction & Special Projects Tom Sullivan said in a news release. “We expect this traffic flow only to be in place for a couple of weeks before we can return to using 4th Avenue as the access point to the ER. We appreciate everyone’s patience with these construction detours, and we look forward to finishing this amazing project and opening our new trauma and emergency center around the first of the year.”
