ALBANY — The Southwest Georgia Council on Aging will present a free six-week Virtual Diabetes Self-Management Class class open to anyone with online access.

While geared toward diabetes self-management, the class will benefit anyone who wants to lead a healthier lifestyle. Interested persons may call (229) 432-0994 and select Option No. 3 to register. Participants will receive a Zoom link to join.

The class is a six-week group workshop for individuals living with type 2 diabetes. The workshop was developed by Stanford University to help individuals manage their diabetes symptoms, tiredness, pain and emotional issues.

The interactive workshop meets for 2.5 hours each week and is taught by two trained instructors, at least one of whom has diabetes. Concepts include how to manage diabetes symptoms, information on physical activity, healthy eating practices, following medication plans, and how to work effectively with health care professionals.

Classes will be conducted Jan. 4-Feb. 8.
