ALBANY — Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler confirmed on Thursday that an Albany woman had died due to the summer heat.

Fowler said that Jerusha Weekly, 41, was walking down the street Sunday evening for roughly an hour before collapsing at her home. She was taken by a friend to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where she died on Monday, he said.

Fowler said Weekly’s body temperature was at 109 degrees, and that nothing else is believed to have contributed to her death.

Fowler said, with heat-related illness being a threat, that it is important to stay hydrated. This particular death, he said, could have likely been prevented.
