ALBANY — Rebekah Willard, a home-schooled 10th-grader from Albany, claimed the top prize in the recent Albany Kiwanis Club Music Showcase.

Rebekah performed “Tango Etude No. 3” by Piazzola on the violin to win the annual competition, hosted each year by Kiwanis Clubs across the state.

Emma Warbington, a sophomore at Sherwood Christian Academy, was runner-up in the competition. Emma performed “Valse Etude” by Gillock on the piano.

As winner of the Albany club’s competition, Rebekah will advance to district competition at Lee County High School April 28. Contestants will compete for scholarship funding, and the top performer at the district competition will advance to compete on the state level.

The Albany Kiwanis Club Showcase Committee members are Ted and Mari Wright, Katrina Baranko, Chuck Owens and Leah Masters. Judges for the showcase were Kristina van der Puy and Amanda LaTona.
