TIFTON — Hospice of Tift Area and Tift Regional Palliative Care will hold a community event titled “The Healing Power of Laughter” at the Tift Regional Community Events Center on Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. The free seminar will feature motivational comedian, actor and author Diana Jordan.

“Laughter and humor can fulfill one of the main goals of hospice and palliative care, which is the improvement of a patient’s overall quality of life,” Vicki Taft, volunteer coordinator with Hospice of Tift Area, said. “It is also an important coping mechanism for the families and friends of hospice and palliative patients. It adds a human dimension to the care. Diana will showcase this during her presentation.”

Jordan is a stand-up comedian who has appeared in film and television and has performed at Radio City Music Hall and The Kennedy Center as well as venues in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. She has also entertained U.S. military troops in Asia and Germany.

Jordan is a self-described “edu-tainer.” She has made two appearances on Oprah Winfrey’s TV show showcasing her book, “A Wife’s Little Instruction Book — Your Survival Guide to Marriage Without Bloodshed,” which sold over a half-million copies in five languages.

Growing up in a small town in Oklahoma, Jordan relocated to California in her 30s, where she studied acting alongside Robin Williams, whom she also dated. In 2010, Jordan was diagnosed with breast cancer and is now a 14-year survivor.

“My greatest desire is to heal the world, one laugh at a time,” she said.

Taft said Jordan’s energetic, funny, and descriptive stories demonstrate why humor is so important in curbing stress, avoiding burnout and building resilience.

“Attendees will be entertained, motivated, and inspired by Diana,” she said. “Please come and join us.”

This free event includes a light meal, but seating is limited and registration is required. Call (229) 353-6373 to register. The Tift Regional Community Events Center is located in Tifton at 1657 S. Carpenter Road, connected to the Tiftarea YMCA.
