Irma triggers football schedule change

Hurricane Irma, which caused the calling off of two high school football games in the Albany area last weekend, will affect at least one game this week.

Doughterty, which was to host Spencer at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Hugh Mills Stadium, will now host Spencer at 2 p.m. on Saturday, according to Dougherty head coach Corey Joyner.

So far, the Dougherty-Spencer game is the only one affected by the storm.

Lee County head coach Dean Fabrizio said his school suffered “minimal damage” and that the Trojans’ Homecoming game Friday against Luella is on as scheduled. Terrell County head coach William Huff said the Greenwaves’ home game against Seminole County is still on for Friday night, as well.

Also still on for Friday, according to Deerfield-Windsor head coach Allen Lowe, is the Knights’ road trip to Pinewood Christian.

Pataula Charter has a home game scheduled for Thursday against Munroe of Quincy, Florida. Friday’s slate includes Americus-Sumter at Westover, Thomasville at Worth County, Mitchell County at Chattahoochee County, Pelham at Calhoun County, Miller County at Baconton Charter, Seminole County at Terrell County, Westwood at Brookwood, Tiftarea at Terrell Academy and Sherwood Christian at Life Christian.
