TIFTON — Alto saxophonist Tim Green will perform Thursday in the final event of the 2017-2018 ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series.

Tim Green was called “a player to watch” by JazzTimes for his unique sound that blends hard bop jazz, fluid modernity and gospel. Green is noted in the jazz community for receiving second place in the 2008 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. In 2012 he released his album, “Songs from This Season,” on his own True Melody Music label.

Green will be the featured soloist on stage with the ABAC Jazz Ensemble for the performance series event, which starts at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on the college campus. His performance is the highlight of this year’s annual ABAC Jazz Festival. High school jazz bands from across the state will perform mini-concerts throughout the day on the ABAC campus.

The ABAC Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Thomas Heflin, assistant professor of jazz. The Jazz Festival is sponsored by the ABAC Department of Fine Arts and the ABAC Arts Connection. ABAC Presents! is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. Georgia Council for the Arts also receives support from its partner agency, the National Endowment for the Arts.

The ABAC Jazz Ensemble has performed throughout the Southeastern United States, Mexico and Europe, including performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the North Sea Jazz Festival in Amsterdam and two World Fairs. The ensemble has also performed in Atlanta at the opening of the Olympic Games and the Governor’s Art Awards Ceremonies. ABAC musicians have also been featured in theme parks such as Disney World, EPCOT, Sea World, and Six Flags over Georgia, as well as a variety of festivals throughout the region.

Entry to this performance is limited and expected to sell out. Tickets are $20, and $10 for students under 18 years of age. Interested persons can call the ABAC ticket line at (229) 391-4895 to preorder tickets.
