ALBANY — Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful and the city of Albany will hold a pair of Arbor Day celebrations next weekend.

On Friday at 10 a.m., a celebration is planned at West Town Elementary School at 1113 University St. A 30-gallon Live Oak tree will be planted on the school campus in honor of Nigel Brown, a student taken too soon from his family and classmates.

On Feb. 19, KADB, Dougherty County and the city of Albany will celebrate Arbor Day with the planting of trees, shrubs and annuals at downtown Riverfront Park and Ray Charles Plaza, starting at 9 a.m.

Keep Albany-Dougherty officials said 420 free 5-gallon trees are available for giveaway via a SW Georgia ReLeaf Tree Giveaway Grant.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear work clothes, gloves and bring shovels. Contact KADB at (229) 302-3098 for additional information.
