ALBANY — Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany celebrated Earth Day Friday by letting more than 100 children, from pre-toddler to pre-K classes on base, plant flowers, play together outdoors and sing nursery rhymes.

“Earth Day is celebrated to encourage awareness of and appreciation for the environment,” Elizabeth Cagle, the wife of base Executive Officer Lt. Col. Kevin Cagle, said. “On (the) MCLB Albany Child Development Center, we are observing this day … for the children to understand the importance of eating healthy foods grown at the center, and to see beautiful flowers and plants grow to help clean the environment.”

This was the first time Cagle had attended an Earth Day celebration at the base. She spent time observing and interacting with the kids, even helping some garden.

“I love the children,” she said. “I like to see them engage and digging and planting flowers. Everybody’s laughing and having a good time.”
