ALBANY — Dougherty County School Board at-large member Lane Price has endorsed Susie Ealum in her Democratic primary run at the open at-large seat. Price, who has held the seat for the past four years, is not seeking re-election.

Ealum is pitted against Geraldine Hudley in the May 24 primary.

“I met with both candidates, looked over their resumes to see what they have done and Susie Ealum is the person I want to endorse.” Price said.

Price said a combination of factors led to her decision to endorse Ealum.

“There were several things that led to my decision,” Price said. “No. 1 is that I think we need someone who is young and forward thinking. She’s a really smart woman and I think she will do a good job. I also think she is a person who will keep the system moving forward and her new ideas will be a good addition to the board.”

Ealum was thrilled by Price’s endorsement.

“Dr. Price’s endorsement is huge and definitely welcomed,” Ealum said. “I am humbled to be supported by such a strong, powerful woman who has done so much good for the Dougherty County School System. When she came to me and said I had her endorsement, I got very excited.”

Ealum said she thought her extensive background in technology was also a factor in Price’s decision.

“Honestly, my tech background with the Marine Corps, which is one of the largest tech users in the world, is the biggest difference between my opponent and me,” Ealum said. “As you know, technology is fast-moving, and you really have to stay on top of things because it becomes outdated very quickly.”

Another factor in Price’s endorsement is Ealum participated in her school board race in 2012.

“I would not say I was surprised by the endorsement since I worked with Dr. Price during her campaign,” Ealum said. “But as I said earlier, I am excited, honored and humbled to receive the endorsement of a woman I respect.”

Ealum is the daughter of former school board member and current District 153 State Rep. Darrell Ealum. She is a U.S. Marine Corps reserve captain and served a tour of duty in Afghanistan as a combat convoy commander. She is a graduate of Deerfield-Windsor School, Darton College and the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business.
