ALBANY — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Southwestern Regional Drug Enforcement Office, GBI Region 3 office in Americus, Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol executed a search warrant on Tuesday that resulted in an arrest and concluded a three-month investigation.
The GBI said that, during the course of the investigation, agents began purchasing methamphetamine in an undercover capacity from Vintavius Whitaker, 26, in Albany. Whitaker was arrested in Lee County on Georgia Highway 520 after a traffic stop was executed by GSP.
Officials said agents had previously observed Whitaker leaving his residence at 507 Johnson Road in Albany. A search warrant was executed at the residence, and as a result of the investigation, more than nine ounces of meth was seized along with two firearms and multiple vials of suspected tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, oil.
Whitaker was being held in the Lee County Jail on Thursday, charged with trafficking in meth. Whitaker also has outstanding warrants in Dougherty County for the same charge. The GBI said more arrests are expected as a result of the investigation.
The Southwestern Regional Drug Enforcement Office is located in Sylvester and serves 42 counties in southwest Georgia.
