ALBANY — Albany police responded to the city’s third homicide of the year Saturday, a 3:09 a.m. shooting that occurred outside Legends Night Club at 723 E. Broad Ave.
Releases from the Albany Police Department said that 31-year-old Jack Carlton Williams III was shot outside the club after an altercation that occurred inside. He was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A second victim, Shekimbre King, 27, was treated at the hospital a short while later for a gunshot wound to her right shoulder. Reports from APD did not indicate whether King was transported to the hospital by EMS or if she had been released from the health care facility.
The police report said that security at Legends cleared the building after an altercation occurred inside. As patrons were walking to their vehicles, an unknown person fired several shots into the crowd, striking Williams and King. APD releases say police so far have not identified a suspect in the shooting.
The incident has been turned over to APD’s Robbery/Homicide Unit.
A separate report from APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks indicated that while officers were investigating the homicide at Legends, an unknown person stole an APD 2010 white Ford Fusion. The vehicle was parked in front of a structure at 725 E. Broad Ave.
The vehicle’s license plate is GV4433A. Police did not say if the car theft is related to the shooting incident.
