ALBANY — Six metro Albany school districts have canceled school on Wednesday in an anticipation of a storm more severe that Monday’s storm, which resulted in early dismissals in many schools across the region.

“Based on the information we have just received from the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, we are canceling all classes on Wednesday.” Dougherty County School System spokesperson J.D. Sumner said. “We expect another storm line that is moving through on Wednesday will be even more severe (than Monday’s) and we just aren’t going to take any chances.”

Sumner advised employees will be notified by their supervisors if needed. Updates will be provided through the DCSS website, app, social media and through the news media.

The following schools and colleges have also canceled classes:

— Albany Technical College (closed for faculty, staff and students. However, ATC senior staff and other staff who are suppose to be in planning sessions should report to campus at 8 a.m., unless otherwise notified or if they feel conditions are unsafe.);

— Albany State University;

— Georgia Southwestern;

— Calhoun County schools;

— Deerfield-Windsor School;

— Mitchell County schools;

— Baconton Charter School;

— Baker County schools;

— Worth County schools.

Lee County public schools, Sherwood Christian Academy, and Westwood Schools are all on spring break this week.
