ALBANY — The city of Albany Recreation and Parks department and J.L. Litman Memorial Funeral Service are partnering to host a Mother’s Day event at the Grille House for senior citizens on May 3.

The celebration will include karaoke, door prizes and other entertainment. There will be a contest to see who among the senior citizens can bring the most guests to celebrate Mother’s Day. Mothers are invited to bring their children and grandchildren old enough to be out of school at that time.

“We want to let (the mothers) know how special they are,” the event’s organizer, Tee Taylor, said of the guest contest.

Albany Coroner Michael Fowler will present the Mother’s Word of Encouragement to share what motherhood means to him.

The Mother’s Day event will take place downtown to “bring them back to where they used to go,” according to Taylor.

The event is a chance for senior citizen mothers to reminisce about “the old days” and share these memories with their children and grandchildren.

“We wanted to do something for the senior citizens where they can go to the parts of downtown where they used to shop, stores like Belk that are no longer down there, but also so they can see how far downtown Albany has come,” Taylor said.

The Mother’s Day event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grille House at 105 W. Broad Ave. across from Riverfront Park. The program is free, but lunch is not provided. Interested persons can call the Grille House at (229) 573-7500 for menu and pricing information. Contact Taylor at (229) 430-5222 or (229) 430-5219 for more information or to make reservations for the Mother’s Day event.
