MORGAN — Motorists can quit detouring and enjoy new, updated bridges this afternoon on State Route 45 in Calhoun County, officials from the Georgia Department of Transportation said.

The road is expected to open around 4 p.m. today. New bridges at Cordray’s Pond and the Ichawaynochaway Creek replaced 65-year-old structures. The contractor still has grassing to do at the site, GDOT said.

GDOT, in October 2017, awarded a $9.4 million construction contract to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. to replace the aging bridges. Both were posted with weight limits, and were designed using truck configurations that weigh less than the current legal state truck weights.
