ALBANY — Once again the community is invited to help the local fight against cancer as the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia is hosting its fourth annual Night for Hope fundraising gala on Feb. 25 at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Albany.

Through fundraising efforts like the Night for Hope, the Cancer Coalition, now operates under the name Horizons Community Solutions, is able to further its mission of supporting South Georgia families impacted by cancer, as all money raised is used locally.

This year’s gala, which will honor husband and wife cancer survivors Lemuel and Linda Griffin, will include a plated dinner, live and silent auctions and live musical entertainment.

Cocktails and the silent auction begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

The public is being invited to make a difference by attending the event, being a sponsor, donating auction items or placing a memorial/honorarium for a loved one.

The Griffins, who are admired philanthropists and beloved community members, are considered champions of the Albany area, and have both successfully battled cancer.

In 2004, Linda Griffin overcame breast cancer and six years later her husband was treated for bladder cancer that reoccurred in 2012. Both are now cancer-free.

Officials with the Cancer Coalition hope the community’s support of the Griffins and of other Southwest Georgia families touched by cancer, will be enough to help the organization continue health navigation, cancer screenings, education, community research and support for survivors.

“We are thrilled to have this highly respected and dearly loved couple as our 2017 Night for Hope honorees,” said Cancer Coalition CEO Diane Fletcher. “I challenge everyone to become involved, so we can exceed our fundraising goals and continue our local, lifesaving work against cancer.”

The Hilton Garden Inn is located at 101 S. Front St. Tickets are $100 per person, or $1,000 for a table.

A similar event is planned for April 20 at Valdosta State University.
