Play With A Purpose
Play with a Purpose
This weekend, Students Off Script will perform A Little Princess at The Main Street Theater in Dawson. It is being presented as a benefit for girls participating in Dawson’s Young Sisterhood Youth Ministry to be able to attend The Camp Grace this summer.
It’s all about the community supporting each other. The theater company, Students Off Script, is made up of largely Albany area middle and high school age home school students. They are grateful to be able to call The Main Street Theater in Dawson their home stage. The beautiful 150 seat Dawson theater offers the students a perfect location to present their annual literature based productions to friends and family.
This year included in the audience will be local girls and their mothers who are members of Dawson’s Young Sisterhood Youth Ministry Inc.. Since 2007 the Young Sisterhood group has mentored young girls ages five and up to help them achieve their life goals. Under the direction of it’s founder and director, Allison Harvey, the group seeks is to make a positive difference for the girls by supporting relationships with caring adults.
The Students Off Script group is using proceeds from their production of The Little Princess, which is based on the classic children’s book by Frances Hodgson Burnette, to fund sponsorships for Young Sisterhood girls to become campers at The Camp Grace in Roberta, Georgia, this summer. It cost 460.00 a week to fund a child at camp. Students Off Script hopes to be able to sponsor at least four children through their play efforts.
The Camp Grace invites groups who are working with children that would never have the ability to afford attending a high quality overnight summer camp experience on their own to bring their kids to their camp at little or no cost to themselves. Camp Grace serves over 1000 Georgia children a year on their 300 acre facility in Roberta. Campers swim, canoe, rock climb, zip line, ride horses and bikes, and learn life skills in a positive and encouraging environment.
Camp Grace is funded entirely by donation and support of sponsors and volunteers. Businesses, churches, schools ministries and non-profit groups working together to positively influence the at-risk children served by The Camp Grace helps to creates community partnerships that can have long term local impact.
