ALBANY – Grammy-winning pop star Rick Springfield is bringing his successful “Stripped Down” tour to the Albany Municipal Auditorium on April 4. Springfield’s performance will include music and storytelling.

Doors for the show will open at 7 p.m. with the music set to begin an hour later. Tickets will be available for purchase on Friday at 10 a.m., with a pre-sale on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Never one to be confined to the recording studio where the music is born, Springfield has toured for more than 40 years, hand-delivering the hits to millions of fans worldwide via his dynamic live shows. His concerts are legendary with their rock-heavy, high-energy full band sets. However, in fall 2013 Springfield decided it was time to expand his live performance options. Hence, the solo “Stripped Down” tour was created to bring an intimate yet still lively performance to fans. The singer incorporates personal stories about his music and life into the show.

The creator of some of the finest power-pop of the ’80s, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and musician has sold 25 million albums and scored 17 U.S. Top 40 hits, including “Jessie’s Girl,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “An Affair of the Heart,” “I’ve Done Everything for You,” “Love Somebody” and “Human Touch.” The “Stripped Down” tour gives Springfield a chance to perform some of the favorite songs that he has written over the years that never quite fit in his full-band sets.

Many fans fell in love with Springfield as an accomplished actor who has starred opposite Meryl Streep in the feature film “Ricki and the Flash,” gave a chameleonic performance as the creepy Dr. Pitlor in HBO’s prestige drama “True Detective,” earned great reviews for his portrayal of Lucifer this season on the CW hit, “Supernatural” and most recently played Pastor Charles on “American Horror Story.”

Springfield’s latest album, “The Snake King,” finds him travelling down a dusty dirt road to explore the blues side of his rock ‘n’ roll and marks a definite departure from the power pop he has been known for.
