ALBANY — Albany City Director of Engineering and Planning Bruce Maples said the Albany City Commission would hear public comment at its meeting Tuesday morning in regards to a request from Georgia & Florida Railroad to permanently close the road crossing at Seventh and Third avenues.

“By law we have to hold a public hearing, then the commission will have 30 days to reach a decision,” Maples said.

In a related development, the city announced last week that, starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the railroad will be making improvements to one of its road crossings located on Swift Street just north of East Residence Avenue.

As part of that project, the entire roadway will be closed to traffic preventing all north-south travel on Swift Street in this area. During this time, motorists will need to plan their trip using alternate routes and expect increased travel times. Work on the crossing is expected to be complete by Friday.
