AMERICUS — With a strong runner-up performance recently at the 2017 Academic Bowl regional competition in Americus, the Robert A. Cross Middle Magnet School academic bowl team has been invited to the 35th annual National Academic Championship in Chicago.
The Robert Cross Academic Bowl team went 4-2 in regional competition and finished second among 12 teams. The national competition will be held June 10-12.

“I am very proud of my faculty, staff, students and parents. We are all on the same team at Robert Cross with one goal, one vision and one mission: Nothing but excellence in all that we do,” said Robert Cross Principal Thelma Chunn.
The team is coached by Ethelene Kimber.
Also, Robert Cross Middle School has again been ranked as one of the top schools in the state of Georgia. For three consecutive years, Robert Cross has been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education as a five-star climate-rated school, which is the highest rating a school can receive.
The rating attempts to show the quality and character of school life and is determined based on such criteria as school safety, student and parent engagement, instructional practices and organization.
Adding to the five-star rating, for the 2015-2016 school year, Robert Cross scored 94.2 on its College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI). This score places Robert Cross among the top 25 middle schools in the state of Georgia, as well as ranking the school as the top middle school in south Georgia.
