Safe Aquatic Fun for Everyone event set at Sutton’s Landing for Saturday
Water safety event to teach parents and children how to be free from danger in and on the water

LEE COUNTY — At Sutton’s Landing, parents and children are invited to learn about boating and water safety Saturday at the Safe Aquatic Fun for Everyone (S.A.F.E.) event.
S.A.F.E., which will run from 10 a.m.-noon, is free and open to the public. It is to include swimming lessons, kayaking groups at the Kinchafoonee Creek, door prizes, live music, boating and water safety coloring books and crayons along with other activities.
Judy Powell, a Leesburg city councilwoman and retired YMCA employee, coordinated the event with the Department of Natural Resources and the Y.
“Water is my thing,” she said. “I want to make sure kids are safe around and in the water.”
A kayaking trip will be one of the door prizes given out at the event on Saturday.
Vendors will have tables to provide information and do demonstrations. Expected vendors include the YMCA, Y Without Walls, Up the Creek Kinchafoonee Creek Kayak Adventures, Boater’s World, Kayak Attack, The Dive Shop, Adventure Dive Center, the Flint RiverQuarium and Flint Riverkeeper.
In case of an emergency, Lee County Code Enforcement, Lee County EMS and search and rescue divers will be present.
