Sewer spill overflows into Flint River near Turner Golf Course clubhouse
Citizens advised to avoid reservoir in vicinity of Turner Golf Course for three weeks
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — The city of Albany is urging citizens to stay out of the reservoir near the Turner Golf Course after a sanitary sewer overflow into the Flint River on Thursday morning.
Officials said the overflow took place due to a pipeline break near the Turner Golf Course clubhouse on McAdams Road, and the overflow traveled by way of the roadside drainage ditch to the reservoir.
Several thousand gallons are estimated to have spilled, but no drinking water systems were impacted.
Officials said crews from Albany Utilities were on the scene and took steps to mitigate the overflow until the pipeline could be repaired. As required by the city’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit, the city has collected water quality samples upstream and downstream of the overflow location for analysis and has provided the appropriate notification to the Environmental Health Department — and public notices have been posted at the location.
Citizens are advised to avoid contact with water in the reservoir in the vicinity of Turner Golf Course for the next three weeks.
