ALBANY — The fatal shooting investigation into the death of 18-year-old Larry Bernard McCray, who was found gunned down on the 1300 block of Whispering Pines Road on Saturday, continues with an individual still at large.
The fatal shooting of McCray was one of two shooting deaths reported in Albany that day. A separate police release said Jamie Lewis was fatally wounded after being shot by David McDuffie, 65, in a home invasion incident on the 500 block of Jordan Street around 8:40 p.m. Saturday.
An update issued by the Albany Police Department said McDuffie had been detained, questioned by detectives and released.
A murder warrant was taken out against Kolean Omar Lawson, 43, following the death of McCray just before 11 a.m. Police said Lawson could have been with Lacoya Lee, 28, and Tyrell Lawson, 28, and they were thought to have made their way south into Florida.
Kolean Lawson surrendered to the Miami Police Department on Monday. Investigators with APD questioned Lee and Tashira Cross. Tyrell Lawson, Kolean Lawson’s nephew, remained on the run Tuesday morning.
“No additional warrants have been issued at this time,” Albany police said Tuesday. “The case remains active.”
Investigators have issued a felony murder, party to a crime, warrant against Tyrell Lawson, who was last seen in St. Augustine, Fla. Additional warrants have also been taken out against Kolean Lawson for aggravated assault, first-degree cruelty to children and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
On Saturday night, dispatch notified officers that a shooting had been reported on the 500 block of Jordan Street. When officers arrived, they found Lewis fatally wounded. McDuffie told police when he arrived home, he noticed an unknown person acting strangely across the street from his residence in a field.
He unlocked his gate, pulled his car into his driveway and said he noticed the person moving closer to his property. McDuffie told police the man came into his yard and pulled on the screen door and entered his porch area. McDuffie said that is when he fired at Lewis after warning him not to come onto his property.
