MOULTRIE — The site of the future Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine campus in Moultrie will be at the 2100 block of Tallokas Road near the intersection of Veterans Parkway, officials from PCOM announced Friday.
A groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction for PCOM South Georgia is planned for April 26 at 11 a.m. A four-year osteopathic medical program, which will train college graduates to become physicians, will be offered at the new 75,000 square-foot facility with 55 medical students beginning classes in August of 2019.
On Dec. 5, PCOM received initial approval from the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation to establish an additional location in south Georgia. Final approval to begin operations will be granted following a visit to the new facility early next year.
PCOM’s admissions department will begin offering information sessions in the region to inform prospective students and college pre-health advisors about PCOM South Georgia. Session dates will be posted on the institution’s website as they are planned.
As part of the celebration, an essay contest in conjunction with the Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center is underway. Both high school and college students are invited to respond to the question – “How can your generation work together to help shape the future of health in South Georgia?” in up to 500 words.
Scholarships in the amount of $500 each will be given to one high school and one college student. Essay contest winners will be announced during groundbreaking festivities.
