ALBANY — Tired of the same old Mondays through Fridays? Do the days seem to blur into each other now that the kids are out of school? National “days” make great makeshift holidays when you’re too far away from Christmas but not ready to tackle those Fourth of July sales.

Mix up the usual Tuesday flow today with some of June 12th’s National “holidays”: National Jerky Day, National Peanut Butter Cookie Day and National Red Rose Day.

For National Jerky Day, pick up a bag of your favorite brand and flavor from the store and chow down on some chewy dried meat. Better yet, make some of your own. Even if you don’t have your own personal dehydrator (because let’s be honest, who has one of those lying around?), you can make any meat/flavor combination your heart desires with your own home oven.

Jerky can pretty much be made with the same ingredients you might marinate your steak in or season your burger with like Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce and whatever seasonings you want to throw in there. Just make sure you don’t forget the flank steaks. This can take a couple of hours, so you might want to pop in a movie or have a Netflix marathon while your jerky “jerkies.” Some flavor ideas include:

— Sweet and spicy

— Barbecue style

— Citrus or pineapple

— Teriyaki

— Dr. Pepper or coffee marinated

To satisfy your sweet tooth, how about baking up (or picking up at your local super market) of a batch of peanut butter cookies? Peanut butter cookies can be made with a few simple ingredients such as flour, baking soda and powder, vanilla, eggs, sugar, butter and of course, peanut butter. A quick search online will yield dozens of recipes, but if you stop by the Betty Crocker aisle, we won’t tell.

Tuesday is also National Red Rose Day. Celebrate by supporting a local flower shop and picking up a bouquet for that special someone or for yourself because self-love is important, too. Go bold and don red attire. You can even mix up some cocktails with rose water if you’re feeling bougie. Whatever you decide to do, don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.
