Stacey Abrams picks up GAE endorsement
Former House Minority Leader is Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner

ATLANTA — The Georgia Association of Educators’ Fund for Public Education Committee has voted unanimously to recommend the endorsement of former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams for election to the office of governor of the state of Georgia.
“It is thoughtful, researched and measured approaches to tackling our public education challenges that led our GAE Board of Directors to determine that Abrams is the choice to move our public education system, and our state, forward in this new global age,” GAE President Sid Chapman said. “Her commitments to policies that help ensure student success and support for educators is unmatched among the gubernatorial candidates.”
According to it’s endorsement, the GAE-FPE believes that Abrams’ history as a staunch supporter of public education is a solid indicator of what she will continue to do as governor to help transform Georgia’s public education system.
The GAE release further stated, “During her tenure as minority leader, Abrams helped lead the effort to prevent numerous legislative efforts that would have proven extremely harmful for our K-12 students. This included helping to bring together a broad-based coalition of community, educators, parents, church and business interests to defeat 2016’s school takeover legislation, Amendment One.
“Subsequently, she continues to build a partnership with the same coalition to use her influences to put in place more commonsense legislation to help our underperforming schools through the passage of the recent First Priority Act.”
Abrams, the presumed Democratic nominee, will be pitted against Stacy Evans in the May 22 primary.
