Surgical robotics event at Tift Regional Medical Center canceled
Chance to view da Vinci Surgery System to be available at Women’s Health event on Saturday
From Staff Reports
TIFTON — Due to unforeseen circumstances, an open house event scheduled for today at Tift Regional Medical Center meant to allow for a deeper understanding of surgical robotics has been canceled, officials at the hospital have announced.
An open house and reception had been planned for this afternoon in the hospital’s cafeteria, allowing people to learn more about the da Vinci Robotic Surgery System, including a full-size model display and an opportunity to try out the robot and speak with one of the physicians with privileges to operate it.
In lieu of the event, the surgery system is still expected to be on display at the Tift Regional Women’s Health Day scheduled for 8 a.m.-11 a.m. on Saturday at the hospital’s Community Events Center at 1657 Carpenter Road in Tifton.
The Saturday event is expected to also include various health screenings and vendors with information concerning women’s health. A seminar on robotic surgery is planned for 10 a.m., coordinators said.
The da Vinci system has been used by Tift Regional physicians for gynecology cases and has been marketed as a tool that offers enhanced visualization and precision with smaller incisions, and quicker recovery time, for patients compared to traditional surgery.
