ALBANY — Taylor Hatfield, a homeschooled student who is part of the Southwest Georgia Home School Association, was named the Exchange Club of Albany’s Youth of the Year at a recent meeting held to honor young area scholars.

High school students qualified for the Youth of the Year contest, and monetary awards presented to four top finishers, by writing an essay entitled “How I Am a Catalyst in My Community.” Academic and leadership qualities were also considered.

Other local students who were presented checks by the Exchange Club were Alexis Kelley of Sherwood Christian Academy, Denzel Cunningham of Westover High School and Deerfield-Windsor School’s Will Potter.

A statement from the Exchange Club called the students a “a positive statement in our community.”
