The idea that we can get someone else to pay proposed new taxes based on an old survey of car tags at the Albany Mall at Christmas time is clearly false, and I am surprised that local politicians and The Albany Herald continue to use it. This is sorry statistics at its worst.

You Republican voters should know that all committee chairmen in the state Senate are from north Georgia with one exception: Dr. Ben Watson of Savannah heads up the Health and Human Services Committee. Remember the good old days when south Georgia had some influence in this state?

So DCSS has a higher graduation rate than Valdosta? I’ve seen near illiterates graduating from Dougherty high schools and the commencement ceremony audience has to be threatened with jail to force them to act in a civil manner.

If Trump was the president of Albany State, today’s Albany Herald article instead of touting the $250 million economic impact, which incidentally is wildly inflated, it would have pointed out what an economic drain Albany State is due to only a tiny percentage of students actually paying tuition.

Message to our senators: Please reopen the government. President Trump’s shutdown is dragging the economy down into a recession.

Trump tries to force manufacturing companies to stay open for workers, but he shuts down jobs to keep federal employees from working. Trump continues to fail as a leader for America.

Okay, citizens, our Albany/Dougherty County officials want us to approve another 1 percent SPLOST tax. That will be 4 percent SPLOST tax and 4 percent Georgia sales tax, 8 percent total tax on every dollar. What will our elected officials do with it? Waste it. A million dollars here, 20 million there, 1 million yonder, always to out-of-state contractors! Vote NO.

Fletcher, you left the coroner, Michael Fowler, out of your list of possible mayor candidates. If he decided to run, he’d beat all of the people you mentioned, including Hubbard.

I heard that the Liberty Expressway should be renamed Litterbug Expressway. How appropriate. What a disgrace it is for Albany and Dougherty County.

The Democrats’ boycott of meetings with the president shows they aren’t interested in the American people either. They get paid for doing nothing, and we work with no paychecks.

I am a Trump supporter and I like the following type of breads: massa sovada, borodinsky bread, marraqueta bread, reikaleipa bread, estonian kringle, rewena paraoa, dampfnuedl, baguette and challah. BTW, I also like lite and whole wheat bread.

I wish Trump and his followers would go to the ends of the earth — and beyond.

Another 1 percent special tax for Albany/Dougherty County? I love it when the politicians make the statement that out-of-town people pay most of the tax. Albany is not the hub of SWGA it once was. People from Worth, Lee, Terrell, Baker are not coming to Albany to shop. I just read where an average new car in the U.S. costs about $37,000. Add another $370 to your total cost if buying in Albany.
