Staff Reports
ALBANY — While people are recovering from the excesses of the Thanksgiving Day holiday, the Thronateeska Heritage Center invites them to take “Selfies with Santa.”
From 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Thronateeska visitors can take a photo with Santa Claus, enjoy hot cocoa and muffins, and stop by an activity table with holiday arts and crafts for children.
While visiting with Santa, guests are invited to also enjoy the opening of a traditional holiday exhibit in the history museum. The “Santa on Main” exhibit will open to the public free of charge at 9 a.m., featuring more than 3,000 depictions of Santa Claus from artist Don Fisher’s personal collection.
This year’s exhibit brings to life the North Pole elf’s downtown district. After Saturday, the exhibit will be open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. until Jan. 6.
“Displaying the Santa collection has been a Christmastime tradition at Thronateeska for years,” Allison Young, program coordinator at Thronateeska, said. “They are all so unique, and many of them are quite beautiful. One of my favorite things about the exhibit, though, is how many families have made it a tradition to return year after year to see it grow and change along with their children.”
Guests are also invited to visit the Wetherbee Planetarium. “Season of Light,” a Christmas carol-filled planetarium show, will begin playing at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. Viewers will learn about the astronomy behind the seasons, the Star of Bethlehem and winter traditions from around the world. Admission is $3.50, plus tax, per person for ages 4 and up, or free for members.
Thronateeska is located at 100 W. Roosevelt Ave. They can be reached at (229) 432-6955.
