Tickets on sale for ‘Jazzin the Quarters: Winter Edition’
Art/jazz event was postponed in January after Hurricane Michael

ALBANY — The bohemian “Jazzin the Quarters” event returns on Jan. 27 with “Jazzin the Quarters: Winter Edition.” Organizers say the event is held to bring the love of jazz back to Albany as part of Renaissance Connection Inc.’s quarterly jazz celebration.
Hurricane Michael may have put things on hold, but the saying holds true, you can’t stop the music when it comes to “Jazzin the Quarters.” Since 2016, the event has brought regional artists to different venues around Albany with the goal of promoting jazz in southwest Georgia.
“We promote regional artists from Atlanta, Tallahassee and artists here in Albany or who have relocated to Albany,” Femi Anderson, executive director of Renaissance Connection, said. “We like to promote traditional and smooth jazz. We’re trying to preserve jazz and bring in a younger crowd and give them a chance to appreciate jazz.”
Anderson said that Renaissance Connection hopes that the break between the last “Jazzin the Quarters” will encourage people to come out and enjoy the music. The event will feature live music, live painting, an auction and a meal. Featured this month will be a Tallahassee-based student jazz band from Florida A&M University called the Disciples of Music.
The January event will be held at the Chehaw Park Creekside Center beginning at 6 p.m. and will include a jazz supper club entree. The entree is included with the price of the ticket and includes a vegetarian option for individuals who do not eat meat. Tickets can be purchased for $35 in advance, and limited $40 tickets are available at the door. Anderson said “Jazzin the Quarters” can accommodate anywhere from 80 to 130 people, depending on the venue.
All proceeds will benefit Renaissance Connection, which aims to promote the arts in southwest Georgia, including the preservation of jazz.
“Funds that we get from these events allow us to do some of the free stuff that we do,” Anderson said. “We do appreciate people for what they can give.”
