ALBANY — A body was found in a wooded area in Randolph County Wednesday, according to the Sylvester Regional Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

According to GBI officials, road workers contacted 911 after discovering the body of a deceased male off Porter Road. The body was, according to the GBI, in a severe state of decomposition.

Randolph County Sheriff Eddie Fairbanks contacted the GBI for assistance in the death investigation. The body was discovered around 4:10 p.m.

The remains of the unidentified man have been sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Macon for an autopsy to determine his identity and cause of death.
