Wendy Wilson gets nod as Darton Cordele Center executive director
New director served as special assistant to Albany State University President Art Dunning

ALBANY— Wendy Wilson has been named executive director for the Darton State College Cordele Center. She most recently served as special assistant to Albany State University President Art Dunning.
As the lead executive officer at the Cordele Center, Wilson will be responsible for planning, coordinating and monitoring all components of the center. She will head marketing and promotion efforts for all academic programs taught at the Cordele facility, in addition to leading student recruitment efforts.
“I’m elated that presidents Richard Carvajal and Art Dunning have entrusted me to lead and advance the Darton State College Cordele Center as its executive director,” Wilson said. “This community is burgeoning with great opportunity. I look forward to showcasing the outstanding and exemplary academic offerings Darton and Albany State have to offer Crisp and surrounding counties.”
Wilson will also manage all partnerships with local industry leaders in efforts to support continuing education and training needs. The executive director position reports to the provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at ASU.
“The Cordele campus is a hidden gem with incredible potential to enhance the delivery of high-quality educational services in a wide range of programs to individuals and businesses in Cordele, Crisp County and surrounding communities,” said Olufunke A. Fontenot, interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at ASU. “The strategic location of the campus on the 1-75 corridor makes it easily accessible to commuters.”
The Cordele Center offers day and evening classes leading to associate’s of arts and associate’s of science degrees and various certificates. Students in any major field can complete all of their core course requirements for most two-year and four-year college degrees.
Since January 2016, Wilson has served as Albany State’s special assistant to the president for strategic communications and university relations. Her responsibilities included coordinating strategic communications and building relationships with stakeholder groups internally and externally.
Wilson previously held the position of special assistant to the president at Darton State. At Darton, her portfolio included media spokesperson for the college, strategic task force planning and Title IX coordinator. In past years, Wilson served as interim director of the Albany State University Office of University Communications and as director of Alumni Affairs.
Wilson is active in the community and serves as a board member for United Way of Southwest Georgia, Communities in Schools, Georgia Partnership in Excellence and the Albany Civil Rights Institute. She has also served on the Girls Inc. of Albany board of directors.
A native of Detroit, Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Bluefield College and a master’s degree in human resource management from Central Michigan University. Currently, she is pursuing a doctorate in higher education at Columbus State University.
