Lt. governor to speak at fundraiser

ALBANY, Ga. — ConnectGeorgia, an organization advocating improvements to Georgia’s infrastructure, is hosting a fundraising reception today at Chehaw Park.
Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle is scheduled to speak at the event.
ConnectGeorgia is promoting passage of the 1 percent special-purpose local-option transportation sales tax, or T-SPLOST, referendum on July 31 to fund regional improvements to highways and other transportation infrastructure. T-SPLOST would levy an additional 1-cent tax on every purchased item now subject to sales tax. Money donated at the Chehaw Park reception would go toward funding the T-SPLOST campaign only for the 14-county Southwest Georgia region, Assistant Communications Director for ConnectGeorgia Holly West said.
According to West, while there is a suggested minimum contribution of $250 per couple to attend the reception, the public is urged to attend simply to learn about T-SPLOST.
“It’s important that people become educated on this so they can make an informed decision on the referendum,” West said.
Several levels of contributions are designated, from benefactor, with a $500 donation, to platinum sponsor, at $25,000 or more.
The reception will be from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. at Chehaw’s Creekside Education Center. Information is available by calling ConnectGeorgia’s Eliza McArthur at (770) 435-5586.
