ALBANY — Alfred Paul Hunter Jr., accused of abducting his 16-month-old son on Monday, was out on bond at the time of the incident in connection to charges for an alleged attack against the victim.
Greg Edwards, district attorney for the Dougherty Judicial Circuit, said Hunter was indicted in May for an incident on Feb. 20, where he was charged with robbery by force, aggravated assault and three counts of cruelty to children, including Kaiden Scott, the child he allegedly abducted. Hunter was freed on bond and awaiting a trial date for the incident, Edwards said.
The May indictment accuses Hunter, 22, of using force, including choking, against Chelsea Scott, in the presence of her three children for the purpose of robbing her of money, Edwards said.
Chelsea Scott told an Albany police officer that Hunter came to her residence at Superior Creek Lodge on North Slappey Boulevard on Monday, grabbed her and attempted to throw her over the second story railing. The two of them struggled, Scott told police, until Hunter walked away from Chelsea Scott, took Kaiden Scott from the room and fled.
The responding officer at the time of the altercation said there was an active temporary protective order that Hunter stay away from Chelsea Scott. She told police Hunter has no legal rights to custody of the child.
The officer stated in a report that following the incident on Monday, dispatch was ordered to look out for a blue 1984 Chevrolet Impala with tag number PYH 9602, in which Hunter and Kaiden Scott were said to have left the premises.
Police officials say Hunter and Kaiden Scott were located in Sumter County around 5 p.m. Monday, shortly after recovery of the Impala, which had been abandoned.
Hunter is being held without bond at the Dougherty County jail and is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault/family violence and three counts of cruelty to children in connection with alleged abduction Monday.
