ALBANY —A reported shooting on Cotton Avenue on Friday evening turned out to be from a pellet gun, officials from the Albany Police Department said Monday.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said — based on initial reports from Friday evening — that a 21-year-old was possibly shot in the back at 831 Cotton Ave. at around 9 p.m. on Friday.

An update provided by Banks said the victim, later identified as Tavis Griffin, 20, told police he was walking down the street and shot at by an unknown person. He was found to have pellet gunshot wounds to his back and side.

Banks said Monday that Griffin did not require hospitalization. The case remains active.
