MARTY HELDENBERG: Southwest Georgia making progress on mental health

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

MARTY HELDENBERG

Up at 6 a.m. April 28 to make the drive of about 80 miles to spend the day at one of the most beneficial and meaningful events we have ever had the pleasure of attending. The Transforming 2 Wellness Symposium, presented by the Southwest Georgia Coalition of Behavioral Health, and through the combined efforts of more people and organizations than I could begin to name and thank, both showcased and celebrated success in this all-out endeavor to educate, lead and assist anyone seeking help in recovery.

Mental health and addiction issues are finally also “out of the closet,” and anyone touched by a loved one’s “needs” received not only answers, but education and offers of assistance from more than 50 different entities and resources. Everyone in Southwest Georgia should be proud of the progress being made in our little corner of the world. Special thanks to Ben Roberts, who did an amazing job as emcee, and everyone who spent so much time and effort in putting it all together. To Lynn Wilson, you will never cease to amaze me.
