ALBANY — The granddaughter of Baconton’s mayor has been arrested in connection with a purse snatching last week, officials with the Dougherty County Police Department say.

Narkia Morman, of Baconton, was arrested Monday morning in connection with a purse snatching at Stop and Shop last week on Sylvester Road. County police had been requesting tips from the community to make an arrest in the crime. Tips from Crime Stoppers assisted law enforcement in identifying the culprit, said DCPD Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick.

The suspect was arrested when her grandmother and Baconton mayor, Annette Morman, turned her in at the Dougherty County Jail, Kirkpatrick said.

Annette Morman was elected as Baconton’s first female mayor last year after serving 16 years as a commissioner and 15 months as acting mayor. Among her recent actions as mayor was the establishment of a new senior citizens program, a promise she had made during her campaign.
