Mayors Hubbard, Coleman to serve as faculty at institute

ALBANY — Current Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard and former Mayor Tommy Coleman have been asked to serve on the faculty of the Newly Elected Official Institute to be held at the Centreplex Convention Center in Macon Thursday and Friday. Hubbard and Coleman are on a panel that will give practical advice to recently elected city officials. Both served in the same capacity last year.
The Institute is a training session conducted jointly by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia and the Georgia Municipal Association.
Hubbard began her first term as mayor of Albany in January of 2012. She served as an Albany City Commissioner after her appointment by then-Gov. Sonny Perdue in 2005 and subsequently being elected for a four-year term in November of that year.
Hubbard holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Albany State University and a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Georgia. Hubbard serves as chairwoman of the GMA Municipal Training Institute.
Coleman served four terms as mayor of the city of Albany. He is city attorney for 23 cities in Southwest Georgia. He served as president of the Georgia Municipal Association City Attorney’s Section and was inducted into the Georgia Municipal Association Hall of Fame in 2013. Coleman is president of the Georgia Council of School Board Attorneys.
