Medical staff applicants reviewed by Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital

ALBANY — A new round of physicians looking to join the staff at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital has come under review.
A relatively light credentials report came before the Professional Affairs Committee at Phoebe on Monday.
The report indicated there are four physicians looking to gain privileges at the hospital. They are Dr. Sean Kenney, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist; Dr. Hiren Joshi, nephrologist; Dr. Neil Goldberg, a radiologist; and Dr. Faisal Khasawneh, a critical care specialist.
Kenney is listed as locum tenens, meaning the physician will be temporarily filling in for someone. Kenney is filling in for Dr. Michael Edwards, the report said.
There are three affiliate staff applicants — primarily mid-level providers — also looking to come on board, under the required physician sponsor, the report showed. Farida Ahmadi is expecting to work in internal medicine under Dr. Phillip Paulos, Martin Lance Apperson will be working in urology under Dr. Michael Daugherty and Jani Marie Dennis will be working in internal medicine with Dr. Edward Vance.
There was one resignation listed on the report. Dr. Babak Saadatmand, a locum tenens staff member in emergency medicine, has resigned, the report said.
The Phoebe Professional Affairs Committee reviewed on Monday the credentialing report that had been seen by the Credentials and Bylaws Committee on March 30 and the Medical Executive Committee on April 7. It was approved to go before the full board.
The Professional Affairs Committee serves as liaison between the medical staff and the hospital’s full board and handles matters relating to applications for medical staff membership. The committee is also meant to watch over and report to the board on matters of quality and safety within the hospital. The medical staff at Phoebe primarily takes on the role of looking into a physician applicants’ qualifications, in turn making a recommendation to the committee before the hospital’s full board makes a final decision.
The hospital’s full board usually meets on the first Wednesday of the month.
