ALBANY — Jon Howard, Albany Ward I commissioner, is hosting a town hall meeting Saturday to present a new pool project for the Thornton Community Center which is being considered by the city.
Howard said the pool as planned would be of a “zero entry” type and would include a splash park, restrooms, showers and an area to relax.
According to Howard, renovations to the Thornton Gym will be included in the project, as the building is outdated and in need of functional and cosmetic improvements including roof repair, restroom and flooring renovations, painting, and replacement of the basketball court.
With the new pool and all repair and improvements to the gym considered, Howard said the requested budget is not to exceed $500,000.
“Please take this opportunity to come out and review the design plans for your new pool and renovations/upgrade of Thornton Gym, and share in the excitement of seeing this project from start to finish,” Howard said in a statement.
The Town Hall Meeting is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at the East Albany Community Policing Center at 1721 E. Oglethorpe Blvd.
