Moore’s 25 Pioints Leads Westover Past Terrell County

ALBANY – The Westover Lady Patriots road the back of AuBre’Ana Moore’s 25 points to a thrilling 53-52 win over Terrell County Tuesday night.
“We road AuBre’Ana all the whole game”, Westover Head Coach Lewis Smith said. “I think it was a team effort by Terrell County. The difference was we just made more free throws than they did”, Smith continued.
Both teams were evenly matched through the first few minutes of the game with Westover owning a 6-5 lead. Terrell County’s Timya Harvey hit a three pointer to give the Lady Greenwaves a 10-8 lead, but the Patriots Kayla Howard responded with a basket to tie the game 10-10. Brittany Williams scored a basket and 1 free throw to give Terrell County a 13-10 lead by quarter’s end. The Lady Greenwaves played tenacious defense, forcing Westover into some turnovers.
AuBre’Ana Moore hit a three pointer to start the second quarter, tying the score 13-13. Both teams matched each other basket for basket for the first minute and a half of the second quarter, with Terrell County up by one, 19-18. Jamiya McDaniel scored 11 points for the Greenwaves in the first half, but AuBre”Ana Moore was able to lead Westover with 13 first half points of her own, and both teams went to the locker room at halftime with Terrell county up 29-27.
Both teams resumed their tight battle in the third quarter. Terrell County was up 33-32 before Jamiya McDaniel hit a three pointer to extend the Lady Greenwaves lead to 4. However, The Lady Patriots went on a 6-3 run before Terrell County retook the lead 39-38 on a basket by Ticobia Whiting. Kayla Howard gave Westover a 41-39 lead when she scored, was fouled and made the free throw. However, Terrell County scored a basket and the third quarter came to an end with both teams tied 41-41.
As was true in the first three quarters, both teams kept it close early in the fourth quarter with Terrell County owning a 45-44 lead before Westover Head Coach Lewis Smith called a time out with 6:09 to go. Terrell County increased their lead to 49-46 with 4:09 to go. Then Westover took the lead on baskets by Howard and Tiaana Campbell with 3:13 to go before Terrell County Head Coach Tammye Jenkins Ware called a time out. With the score 52-50 Westover and roughly two minutes to go, the Lady Patriots moved the ball around the perimeter without taking a shot to run clock, but Terrell County forced a turnover and scored to tie the game with under a minute left. Westover’s Tamiyah Dice was fouled and made one of two free throws to give the Lady Patriots a 53-52 lead. Terrell County had a chance to score with 18 seconds left, but Timerius Whiting’s shot was missed and Westover won the jump ball. The Lady Greenwaves had one last shot at the buzzer, but it was missed and Westover escaped with a 53-52 victory.
Jamiya McDaniel led the Lady Green Waves with 15 points and her twin sister, Jamiel McDaniel, scored 13.
