National Fishing and Boating Week should be celebrated on the water

ALBANY ‒ The Georgia Department of Natural Resources wants to help outdoors enthusiasts celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week by offering two Free Fishing Days this Saturday and June 8. On these days, Georgia residents do not need a fishing license, trout license, or lands pass for Wildlife Management Areas or Public Fishing Areas to legally fish.

“I can’t imagine anyone not wanting an opportunity to get out on the water, whether fishing from the bank, boating with friends or fishing while boating,” Scott Robinson, chief of the Georgia DNR WRD Fisheries Management Section, said in a news release. “Everyone benefits when you are out on the water because boating and fishing help you connect with family and friends; provides stress relief; and it also means you are actively supporting conservation efforts with the purchase of fishing equipment and boating fuel.

A variety of special fun fishing events is scheduled to coincide with these dates, including events at Robert Cross Pond, Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany and the Georgia National Fairgrounds. However, the celebration is not limited to these venues. Anglers can fish any of Georgia’s public fishing areas and state parks, as well as any other water open to public fishing in the state.
