ALBANY — One Albany man who was taking part in a racing incident has died and another has been arrested after the pair were involved in an early-morning collision.

An Albany Police Department release said Jamil Wright, 31, died from injuries that were the result of a collision with Lee Walters, also 31, as the two were racing on the 900 block of West Oglethorpe Boulevard.

Police said the men were racing to the west when the collision occurred.

Wright, who was driving a Dodge Challenger, and Walters, who was driving a Chevrolet Corvette, collided at around 1:15 a.m. in the Wednesday-morning incident.

Police said Walters left the scene after the collision and went to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital seeking treatment for his injuries. Wright was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Walters confessed to officers that he was racing and panicked following the collision. He was transported to the Dougherty County Jail after being released from the hospital. He was charged with racing, leaving the scene of an accident, and homicide by vehicle in the 1st degree.
