ALBANY — The Dougherty County Commission talked paint on Monday, ultimately voting to re-bid a job sprucing up the Dougherty County Health Department.

Here are some highlights of the meeting:

— Commissioners, by a 6-1 vote, rejected a staff recommendation to contract with the second-lowest bidder after lengthy discussions last week and Monday.

— Commission Chairman Chris Cohilas said there was some “ambiguity” in the bid documents in that one section stipulated that references were required and in another stated that references “may be” submitted with the bid package.

— The recommended bid was submitted by Affordable Painting and Remodeling of Leesburg in the amount of $190,000, while the bid from Albany-based Flint River Construction Services came in at $72,000 but was rejected due to the company not providing references.

— The county will seek new bids for interior painting of the 1701 S. Slappey building.

— The board approved the purchase of a trailer equipped with speed-detection radar and cameras at a cost of $39,220.

— Commissioners heard a report that more intervention and prevention is needed to reach children with positive life skills from the Region 4 Mental Health Developmental Disabilities & Addictive Disease Advisory Council, which covers 24 southwest Georgia counties.
