PAM AND LARRY BARFIELD: Moultrie Transforming2Wellness symposium to focus on recovery
Pam and Larry Barfield
We would like to thank everyone who supported Barney’s Run this past Saturday, raising $25,000 for K9s for Warriors. The support of so many people makes us more hopeful about recovery from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). There are 184 new cases of PTSD diagnosed every day from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We lose one veteran every hour to suicide.
Our service dog, Camo, has brought so much positive change to our lives.
We want to bring help to many others who could benefit from the support of a trained service dog. Our connection with Barney’s Run has not only brought Camo to us, it has also made it possible for us to reach out to others.
Our next outreach event will be at the large regional recovery symposium to be held in Moultrie on April 29. Transforming2Wellness will feature personal stories of the recovery journey from mental health and substance abuse conditions. Most of the speakers are from this region, including the Albany area.
The three of us will exhibit for K9s for Warriors, joining a large group of exhibitors who offer support to those in search of recovery.
The all-day symposium is completely free of charge, including the noon meal. Pre-registration is required by today at http://transforming2wellness.eventbrite.com. For assistance with registration, call (888) 978-5512.
Transforming2Wellness, one of six regional recovery symposiums in the state, is co-sponsored by NAMI Albany and NAMI Moultrie, as well as the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network, The Georgia Parent Support Network, The Georgia Council on Substance Abuse, and the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD)
We are excited to be a part of the recovery community. Please join us and see this community in action!
