ALBANY — Pelham athletic director and head football coach Frankie Carroll has resigned to become the new athletic director at Worth County High School.

“It’s just time to move on,” Carroll said. “I’m looking forward to another adventure, so to speak.”

Carroll has been at the helm of the Hornets for the past four seasons, going 13-27, including a 4-6 record this past season.

In addition to his duties as athletic director at Worth County, Carroll will coach quarterbacks under Worth coach Jason Tone.

“I haven’t been an assistant coach for a long time, but I’m looking forward to that,” Carroll said. “It was just time to move on from Pelham. I took them as far as I could. Maybe somebody else can take them a little farther.”

Carroll, a well-respected coach among his peers, will succeed Russ Beard who recently retired. Though he is not familiar with the quarterback talent at Worth County, Carroll is familiar with the offense the Rams run.

“They run the Wing T … I’ve run that ever since I’ve been a head coach,” Carroll said. “When I was at Madison County, Fla. with coach Randy McPherson, he ran that. It’s going to be something familiar to me.”

McPherson is currently the head coach at Lowndes.

Carroll is expected to be a valuable asset to a Worth County football program that continues to improve. The Rams won the Region 1-AAAA ‘B’ subregion last year before falling to Cairo in the region championship game.

The Rams offense put up some stellar numbers on offense last season.
